Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical Job Specialty: Medical Surgical Job Duration: 26 Weeks Shift: 12H Nights Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: Experience with post-operative surgical patients Job Description: - Department specializes in Medical Surgical nursing. - The unit consists of 36 beds. - Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5. - Care for surgical patients with a mix of medical surgical diagnoses. - Common patient types include surgical cases such as total joints, appendectomies, cholecystectomies, and simple back surgeries, as well as medical and cardiopulmonary conditions such as CHF, COPD, pneumonia, and dementia. - RNs are not required to titrate drips, with common drips including heparin. - A Charge Nurse and resource nurse are available each shift; the charge nurse does not take patient assignments. - Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) have a ratio of 1:8. - Respiratory equipment used includes CPAP, with BiPAP and high-flow patients transferred to higher acuity units as needed. - RNs are preferred to read and interpret telemetry; assistance is available from charge or resource nurses if needed. - Shifts are scheduled for 12 hours from 7-7, with a cooperative approach to scheduling requests. - Weekend and holiday work may be required based on unit needs. - No call or standby requirements are in place. - RNs may be required to float to other medical surgical floors as needed. - The dress code requires navy blue scrubs, which are not provided by the facility. - Orientation consists of general orientation followed by one shift on the unit. - Experience with the Epic Systems Corporation's EpicCare Inpatient EMR is an advantage. - Floating requirements include other medical surgical floors within the facility. - The environment adheres to a strict non-discriminatory policy, promoting equality and inclusivity in all aspects of work.
